La Deveze Wedding Photographer - Summer Destination Wedding in Montpellier
A warm August wedding at La Devèze, where a slow and peaceful morning rolled into a full day of celebration beneath the Cévennes mountains. When I shoot destination weddings, I always arrive at least one day early. And for this wedding in Montpellier, I met Louise and Will the afternoon beforehand where we walked the entire estate together, working out where the sun would fall, where the shade would hold, and how each space could be used fully. They cared a lot about how the day would feel in photos, and I greatly appreciated how much thought they’d already put into it. That evening planning paired with weeks of prep meant the wedding day itself felt easy, where nothing was rushed or unaccounted for.
The beautiful venue, La Devèze, is an 18th century mas and sits across 120 acres of vineyards, forest, and meadow just a short drive from Montpellier. It is quintessentially French. The main house itself features warm brickwork, shaded terraces, gravel underfoot, and open views stretching towards the mountains. The approach to the estate is a narrow forest road and as you near the end the mas unveils itself. It's truly a venue built for hosting an incredible wedding.
Louise and Will gathered 50 of their closest people and brought them to the South of France for the weekend. From the beginning, everything moved at the same rhythm as the estate itself. It was calm, considered and relaxed from start to finish.

Both parties got ready in separate areas inside the main house. The morning was quiet and warm. Sunlight poured into the courtyard, casting strong shadows across the stone, while inside, skylights filled the rooms with soft, airy light.
With accommodation on site for guests, there was no rush. Everyone moved slowly—coffee outside, doors open, warm air drifting through. It set the tone for the whole day.

The ceremony took place on the elevated deck, with the Cévennes mountains stretching out behind them. Large white canopies kept guests cool in the August sun, and they photographed beautifully against the rural landscape. The backdrop was nothing but sky and rolling hills.
It was a warm, heartfelt ceremony. Some of my favourite images came from wide shots of the setup against the mountains, and close frames capturing Louise, Will, and their guests in the moment.

Dinner took place on the shaded terrace beside the main house, with round tables for the guests and a head table just for Louise and Will. Small floral touches sat against the green foliage and warm brick, with fairy lights strung through the trees. The first course was served, followed by speeches, and then the second course as everyone settled into the evening.
After the second course, I took Louise and Will into the courtyard for a few more portraits. The light was soft, the space full of texture, and it gave us a relaxed moment away from the bustle of dinner. These shots captured them naturally—movement, connection, and laughter—before the evening celebrations really kicked off.

As the sun set, all the guests moved outside for the cake cut—a tower of profiteroles—and the first dance. From there, the energy lifted instantly. Live music filled the courtyard, the dancefloor packed, and everyone sang, laughed, and moved together. Once it grew darker, the party moved indoors, but the energy never dipped. Guests were dancing, celebrating, and fully enjoying the day alongside Louise and Will.
